Whether we're doing groundwork, riding or driving, one thing is common: your horse must be following you. For that to be the case, you must be leading. In Part 1 of this series, we're working with a couple of horses. Neither horse has ever been driven before. We really explore the pieces we need to have in place so that when we start Leading from Behind, our horse is attentive, focused on us and relaxed. One horse struggles with certain elements; that's a great opportunity to demonstrate how we work though them.

We'll be working on ensuring your horse can follow you under the pressures of objects moving behind and beside them. Using the progressions we introduced in the previous session, we'll advance to having our new horses pulling objects. We'll continue to progress to pulling a sleigh. Joining us will be Verne and Connie from Horse Drawn Rides for All Occasions. They'll be giving us a detailed tour of driving tack and equipment and exercises that they use to train their amazing Clydesdales. This is going to be a great one!
